In a video posted on social media, the AG touted his track record reducing drug crimes and targeting the state's most violent criminals.
"Three years ago, I made one promise to the people of Virginia ... To keep you and your family safe, and as Attorney General, I serve the as the people's protector," he stated.
"We cannot allow Virginia to return to the dangerous failed policies of the past, where our law enforcement heroes are reviled ... (When) our criminals came first and victims came last."
The 48-year-old Republican was first elected in 2021, topping incumbent Mark Herring, and has become a favorite for many voters in Virginia.
"As Attorney General, I've deployed every tool available to make Virginia safer," Miyares added. "I'm a prosecutor ... A husband, and father to three ... We cannot returned to failed policies because the future of our families and Virginia is at stake."
Virginia Gov. Glenn also vouched for Minyares, citing his history of "backing the blue."
"As Attorney General, Jason vigorously defends the laws of the Commonwealth, stands with law enforcement every single day while leading our shared fight to end the free flow of opioids and fentanyl into our communities, and has been a constant advocate for victims of human trafficking and domestic violence," the governor stated.
"He has never backed down when it comes to standing up for Virginians. He is an exceptional Attorney General."
Others vying for the Attorney General's seat include Democrats Jay Jones, and Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor, who have exchanged barbs with the incumbent.
Following Miyares' announcement, Jones was quick to take to social media to go after the AG.
"Attorney General Miyares has failed us as Attorney General," he posted. "Instead of protecting our families, he’s been a partisan warrior for his extremist agenda.
And now he’s running for reelection to give Donald Trump a blank check," Jones continued. "Next November, we will stop him."
On Monday, Youngkin also threw his hat in the ring, endorsing Winsome Sears for governor and Miyares to stay as AG.
"In 2021 Winsome, Jason, and I ran as a team and we have served Virginians as a team," he said. "In 2025, Winsome and Jason will once again lead the Republican team as candidates for Governor and Attorney General.
"Both have been indispensable partners to advance our shared, commonsense conservative policies that have made Virginia the best state in America for business, backed the blue and cracked down on crime, stood strong for our military and veterans, and transformed education by raising teacher pay, re-establishing academic excellence, and empowering parents in their child’s education and life."
